This is a unique kind of Asheville Bike Tour… you get to taste a variety of cheese made right here in Western North Carolina. Each day you will enjoy the delicious results of a different cheesemaker along the WNC Cheese Trail.
Not only will we enjoy a route that showcases the rural farmland, mountains and quiet country roads of Western North Carolina, but you’ll visit the creamery of these artists and taste their fantastic cheeses. You’ll even ride a portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
And we won’t just be tasting cheese, but learning about how it was made from the artisan cheesemakers. We’ll also experience how the cheese tastes when paired with wine and beer, and products will be available for purchase (we’ll carry them safe in the van, you aren’t expected to haul your purchases on your bicycle).
The WNC Cheese Trail was designed to link together the numerous award-winning cheesemakers, facilitating visits by car. We’ve found that visiting WNC Cheese Trail members by bicycle provides a perfect sampling of the variety of cycling routes and scenery in Western North Carolina.
You will pass through small mountain communities populated by artists and farmers, such as Burnsville and Celo. We’ll also travel along a portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway to the village of Little Switzerland, while enjoying the iconic ridgeline views. You will see Lake Lure, and ride past Chimney Rock as you approach the beautiful Hickory Nut Gorge and then descend into the farming community of Fairview.
The final day of this tour will include a trip into the heart of Asheville for breakfast, sightseeing, and shopping. As you probably already know, Asheville is known for its fabulous food, art, and music. A just reward after three days of demanding riding.
SPECIAL FOR THE FIRST CHEESE TOUR OF THE SEASON: After breakfast with your guides on the final day, we’ll take you by luxury van to the Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest at Highland Brewing Co. At the festival, you will have an all-access pass that allows you to enjoy all of the offerings of the festival including cheese making and goat milking demos, mozzarella stretching, beer pairings and much more. We’ll take care of your bike while you enjoy the festival, and meet even more cheesemakers.
Overnight accommodations will range from comfortable mountain retreat locations to the sights and sounds of Asheville. This tour is limited to 10 guests.

We will meet you for breakfast in Black Mountain, NC at The Monte Vista Hotel. While you’re meeting your tour mates, we’ll load your bicycle into our custom trailer. We’ll ride in the Velo Girl Rides luxury van up to the charming town of Burnsville NC.
Located in the shadow of Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, Burnsville is home to many mountain artists. Our route will wind along scenic Jack’s Creek before passing through Celo on our way to Mountain Farm.
There we will be greeted by farmer Marilyn Cade. Marilyn will take us on a tour of her lavender and goat farm. Mountain Farm has an adorable store that it full of products grown or made on the farm. After a long climb, we will cross the Hickory Nut Gap and drop down into the farming community of Fairview. A few more pedal strokes and we will be ready for a well-earned treat.
