Cycle to Farm® is a popular series of organized cycling events that encourage and promote local farmers, local farms and agritourism by bicycle in the South.
This is the first time the event has started in Asheville!
Platinum Sponsor New Belgium will host the Start/Finish at their brand new campus along the French Broad River on Saturday, October 1. We’ll roll out of the city and into the beautiful Sandy Mush (and back). The Sandy Mush is an extraordinary area known for farmland preserved from commercial development.
Returning riders will recognize that much of the route is the same as used in 2013 and 2014 for the Cycle to Farm Sandy Mush. Our previous Start/Finish at the Addison Family Vineyard has now become one of the Farm Stops along the route (yes, if you’d like to buy their wine, volunteers will bring it back to the Finish for you).
As you ride from farm to farm, you’ll be offered tasty samples prepared by the farmers — and the opportunity to buy their products, produce and wares. Volunteers will haul your purchases back to the Finish, so that you can keep riding to the next farm. The route is a challenging metric century (100 kilometers, or about 62 miles). And because this is Western North Carolina, you’ll get plenty of challenging climbs, rushing descents, and beautiful country roads.
Delicious draft beer by New Belgium will be offered at the Fabulous After Party when you return. Which you can enjoy with your farm to table meal: handmade pizza with local ingredients, baked in a wood-fired oven on site (Chef Mark is upping his game, with a new oven for 2016).
Friends of Connect Buncombe, receives the profit from the event for their efforts promoting greenways throughout the county. Of course, local farmers benefit substantially from the chance to meet riders face-to-face, sell product, and show off their beautiful land.
We also view the involvement of volunteers and sponsors as an opportunity to build community among foodies, athletes, and local farmers. We encourage them all to join us at the Fabulous After Party.
Can’t make it on October 1, or want to ride two different Cycle to Farm routes? Check out Cycle To Farm Black Mountain NC on Saturday, July 16.

Day 1 – Friday September 30
Plan to spend the weekend in Asheville, and create a getaway filled with all the best things that this town has to offer: food, art, music and history.
But, don’t delay making your arrangements…October is leaf-peeping season in Western North Carolina and hotel rooms and vacation rentals are snapped up quickly by travelers eager to have a front seat for the annual color show.
Packet pick-up will be held on Friday afternoon. Stop by to get your bib number and your rider goodie bag; avoid the lines on Saturday morning.
Take a stroll through downtown Asheville, and sample the many possibilities for dining, local craft beer, and live music. But don’t stay out too late…
Day 2 – Saturday Oct 1
*New Start Location* The Cycle To Farm Metric Century begins at 9:00 AM at New Belgium Brewing located along the French Broad River in West Asheville. Be sure to show up much earlier if you need your packet, and to enjoy coffee by hometown favorite Dynamite Roasting and other amusements offered while you’re getting ready to roll!
This challenging route will take you to four local farms where culinary treats will await, along with products for sale.
At the end of your ride, enjoy the Fabulous After Party featuring New Belgium brews, live music, and a farm-to-table meal. You can meet more of the CTF community — we invite volunteers, first responders, and sponsors to join us at the Fabulous After Party.
Day 3 – Sunday Oct 2
You’ve earned the chance to sleep in today. Enjoy breakfast in downtown Asheville, where we can recommend Early Girl Eatery among the many choices, and consider a stroll through the River Arts District (just across the river from New Belgium) before returning home.
Whatever you chose, don’t rush through the day. Enjoy your Asheville adventure.
