Your Cycling Ambassadors
As you ride in Cycle to Farm, you may well meet one of the Cycling Ambassadors.
Cycling Ambassadors are volunteers, riding the route with you, and they are there to help. They stand out because they’re wearing a fluorescent yellow-green “belt” style vest over their jersey.
Want to know how far you’ve gone? Where’s the next Farm Stop? Worried about the clicking sound your bike is making?
Just ask…
All of our Cycling Ambassadors have ridden the route many, many times. And this isn’t their first rodeo, or their first Cycle to Farm. So they can help you with logistics and all kinds of questions.
They’re also in communication with the Safety Director, so they can usually get help for you… whether it’s a ride back to the Start… or an EMT for a medical issue.
Who are the Cycling Ambassadors?
They’re dedicated men and women who love this area, these rides and this event. They’ve provided hundreds of hours of help, and not just during events. Prior to Cycle to Farm, they keep an eye on road conditions, troublesome dogs and opportunities for improving the event. They help us test new routes, and even new events.
How did they become Ambassadors? Each one was invited by Jen Billstrom, the event director, after she observed their helpful nature, generous spirit and dedication to riding thousands of miles. It is a profound compliment to be asked to serve.
So if you get to meet one of these special people at Cycle to Farm this year, please say Thank You.
About this blog entry: Jen Billstrom is the creator of Cycle to Farm®, a unique metric century (62 mile) group ride that uses local farms as rest stops. Farmers offer their product for sale, and Cycle to Farm volunteers transport purchases by the cyclists back to the Finish, where the community joins in a farm to table meal at the Fabulous After Party. The event promotes local farms and benefits the development of Greenways. This year the event is on Saturday, July 18 in Black Mountain. For more information, see CycleToFarm.org.
