Guess what I just found in the washer. That’s right, my Garmin. I left it in the pocket of my windbreaker and now it is shiny and clean…and, thankfully, still working. Why didn’t I follow my normal routine of checking the pockets before loading the washer? Maybe my slip is the result of being overwhelmed by two overflowing hampers.
Despite the colder weather, David and I have been active enough to generate a lot of dirty laundry lately. Almost every activity, including cycling, running, walking the dog, hiking, weight training and yoga, require extra layers of clothing during the winter season.
This inspired me to share a product review with you. In the quest to rid our performance fabrics of stink, I began to search for a laundry detergent that could do the job. I googled for home solutions and tried a variety of products, but eventually landed on the solution that has been working for me for over a year.
I have been using a product called Sport Suds with great results. I order it through Amazon because I have not identified a local source. It is a powder detergent that comes in a small canister. I have a high-efficiency, front load washer so I use half a scoop (about one teaspoon) per load in the soak cycle. When that is done, I use another half scoop with the delicate cycle. When done, our high-performance fabric clothes are clean and free from stink…and I am happy.
Sport Suds comes with a warning that using it for the first time can clean your washing machine causing it to release black gunk from the machine. As instructed, I ran one empty load in my machine before adding clothes. I have never had this experience, but I follow my machine’s manufacturer’s instructions and use the cleaning cycle at least once per month which may eliminate the build-up of said gunk.
So, there you go…what not to do (wash your Garmin) and what to do (use Sport Suds) in one short blog post. Happy washing!
